A sweet, sticky mess
It’s pretty official now - we have a verbal offer and have discussed relocation package. As long as nothing is changed when the written offer arrives, I am going to become a southern gal.
Stick around y’all*. There will be tales to be told.
* Note use of y’all. Do I sound southern yet?
Does MTV still run that campaign? It’s in my head every time I go to the polls. I remember a U2 concert with Rock the Vote tables set up everywhere prior to the 1992 election. Anyhow, I digress.
I went a little church not far from my home today to vote. The boy (4 yrs.) was in tow due to behavioral issues - I had to pick him up at school by mid-morning - and I think that it was the only time he behaved. I explained the process to him the best I could and he studied me every step of the way. He asked a number of questions and seemed actually quite interested. Of course, he did get quite angry that he didn’t get a turn. Oh well- I let him wear my sticker.
It was a good lesson. Of course between it, my explanation of Earth Day and our fourth day of rotten behavior at school, I think his mind is about blown. As is mine, and that’s a whole other post.

Stolen from the millions of others who’ve done this.
It’s sad that my first memories of Earth Day revolve around the excitement of a fun day with concerts at Penn State way back when I was a college student. I’ve matured a bit since then (yes, I said a bit!) and now find myself striving to be green throughout the year and celebrating this day by trying to get my children to find ways to take care of our planet.
Some of the things we’re been doing this year involve growing some of our vegetables, trying to eat more locally, reduce waste and reduce the “stuff” we bring into our home. It’s been going well although I know there’s so much more to do. And we’ll keep working on it.
We’re preparing for a move later this summer and one of my topics of research lately has been paint - low and no-VOC paint to be specific. I have some brands in mind and am excited to be able to paint a new home without that burning feeling in my nose and smell wafting throughout the house. I’ve also been eyeing up flooring. I have terrible allergies and despise carpet in a home. I was leaning towards bamboo but the more I read about it, I’m more hesitant about some of the issues popping up around it. I am starting the like the idea of cork more and more.
Those are just some of the thoughts bubbling through my head today. I hope that Earth Day becomes more and more recognized as people start thinking about all that they can do. It really should be a day to reflect on your efforts and how you can increase them two-fold, three-fold and more. And of course, to celebrate our lovely planet that we don’t quite care for as we should.

Our lives continue to be as hectic as ever. I think soon I may just collapse and spend a day or two sleeping just to recover.
The move to Florida looks nearly definite. We came up with 2 pages of to-do items on the house and blew too much $$$ at Home Depot to get started. Meanwhile, I’m in a hectic period with my regular job plus my at-home stuff is killing me. Me? Design a business site/blog? Hahahahahahaha. Yet, I must. In between all the rest of the stuff. I really need to learn the art of multi-tasking and soon.
The girl is still stubbornly two but that’s do-able. But after another nice, long stretch of good days, the boy has reverted a bit so that’s taking up a lot of energy. I feel almost ready to give up one day then reach a bit deeper to find another few ounces of hidden energy and go on again. Anxiety issues seem to be a real problem suddenly. Not that they weren’t before, but now it’s dominating his behaviors rather than contributing. If that makes sense in any way…
I have more appointments to make and a million more books to request. I’m fortunate to work at a big University which has a great library system and lets me take out unlimited numbers of books. Unfortunately, my brain is about the explode but maybe I’ll retain a good nugget of info or two and it will all be worth it.
To come, some more on the Florida trip (including pictures) and some ramblings on possibly trying the Feingold diet. Exciting stuff, no?
